Hot Stone Massage

First, it’s important to understand exactly what hot stone massage is. In hot stone massage, the massage therapist places warmed stones on the body on specific points and leaves them there for a period of time. Placement points may include the back, hands, and acupressure points. Some stones are also held by the therapist and used to massage the muscles and fascia of the body. Prior to treatment, the stones are placed in warm water in a slow cooker or similar device to heat them to around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

The active stone massage further helps to loosen knots in the muscle, but is a relaxing and gentle technique. It also helps alleviate pain and improve circulation. I’ve seen a few pictures of people getting hot stone massage therapy on spa magazines and brochures, so I was wondering what it’s all about. It’s pretty cool how the hot stones transfer heat through the body to help loosen the muscles. It seems like that would do my back some good since it’s been feeling really tight lately. I should ask about getting a hot stone massage when I can sign up for a spa service on my day off. Thanks for the information!
